End of Year Library Wrap-up

Week 9 of the last term of school - what a great year it has been! We have seen many changes over the course of the year. Two of our teachers married - Mrs Bohan and Mrs Craig; Miss Seery left us after six and a half years as principal and we welcomed Mr Savage as our new principal; we had the opening of our new Sala di Sant'Antonio - a wonderful facility that saw the first of our cultural evenings; we shared with Mrs Buckley and her children in their sadness with the loss of their husband and father; we prayed with Ms Lee Seery as she triumphed over health battles; we farewell Mrs Bellamy as she leaves for retirement after 12 years at St Anthony's and we also farewell Mr Schostakowski as he leaves us for St Peter's and Paul's and Mrs Wilson who leaves us after working for seven years as a valuable school officer in our library. We also farewell our great Year 7 students who have been wonderful role models and leaders this year - we wish you all the best as you enter your secondary schooling. Our school community has shared in many other regular and successful yearly events - athletics and swimming carnivals; cross country competitions; Dance Fever; our wonderful Fiesta; weekly reflective and beautiful Prayer assemblies; weekly Merit assemblies which saw students receive a wide variety of awards for academic, social, artistic and sporting success; Year level celebrations of learning; Debating competitions; before, during and after school training for a variety of sports and activities; morning skipping; and exciting and stimulating classroom lessons across the school. Here in the library we have enjoyed our lunchtime activities - story time, craft days, movies, Letters and Numbers and general relaxing time. Children have enjoyed working with the interactive whiteboard to create slideshows, book trailers, poetry and various text types. Many children have had the opportunity to work in small groups in the air-conditioned comfort of the library during the year as well. Our Book Fair was a great success, earning valuable dollars to be spent on resources; Book Week was amazing, with just about everyone getting into the spirit of the One World, Many Stories theme for our dress-up parade. Many hundreds of resources were added to our collection, while some older resources were weeded. We began the process of rehousing our readers and reorganising our shelving to make the books more easily accessible for all - a big task that is continuing. We would like to thank the many people who have contributed to the running of our library - the school resource centre - Year 6 library monitors, parents who covered books and cleaned shelves and reorganised books and all the wonderful volunteers who helped in a variety of ways. My special thanks goes to Mrs Milligan and Mrs Wilson who have been the backbone of the library, completing those time-consuming chores such as accession, shelving and gathering resources for classes - these ladies have worked extremely hard this year (as they always do) and I will miss Mrs Wilson as she leaves us next year. So once again we say goodbye to a jam-packed school year and look forward to a rest before we tackle 2012. God bless all, have a super holiday, stay safe and we'll see you in the library!
