Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

At our Shrove Tuesday liturgy yesterday afternoon, we participated in a burning of our lenten promises ritual. The ashes from this ceremony will be used in the signing of the cross on our foreheads during our Ash Wednesday liturgy today.
Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days before Easter.
