Bullying and Cyber Safety

Thank you to Senior Constable Rob Johnstone and Detective Bill McIntyre for their informative and thought provoking presentation to students in years 5 to 7 on the dangers and pitfalls of incorrect internet use. The students were told how information travels and how it can be traced by police when necessary. They learned about the consequences of having a negative digital reputation. All students received a Surf Safely card which oulined some of the main points of the presentation, especially the importance of the 5Rs: REALISE (that not everyone you chat to online is who they say they are; REFUSE (to give your personal information online); REVIEW (all your contacts - don't have people you don't know); RESPOND (if you feel uncomfortable while online, close the progam and tell your parents or someone you trust); REPORT (any suspicious behaviour online to the police). The governemnt has a great site about cyber safety called Cybersmart with a special section for kids. Check it out here.
